about the conference and gathering

Convened annually since 2015, the OUTing the Past Conference & Gathering maintains a commitment to examining the subjects as well as the evidenced-based methodologies and undertakings that contribute to a greater appreciation of LGBT+ history. It furthers the aims of OUTing the Past by coordinating a two-day programme featuring papers, panel discussions and workshops while providing a forum for deep and sustained engagements among its participants.

Past meetings have attracted delegates from over fifteen countries involved in academic pursuits and research, political/human rights activism, voluntary organisations and professional practices outside the academy. While the Conference & Gathering is dedicated to LGBT+ histories, various communities are creating and curating history now, so scholars from a range of academic disciplines, public scholars, creative artists, students, librarians, archivists, activists, heritage professionals, and others are all equally welcome.
